It is interesting how Amazon Echo’s virtual voice assistant Alexa with time gains more knowledge, almost like a growing child. From our previous articles on the Amazon Echo one could relate with its advancement. Just months ago it upgraded, being able to tell you the time that restaurants close and also read you a bedtime story by tapping into Audible.

Now, it’s got something new again to bring to your table, Johnnie Walker Blended Scotch Whiskey has teamed up with Amazon to develop a skill, so Alexa can now teach you about 150 years of whiskey in few minutes. This skill was released today on the Amazon Echo skills section to the Alexa app.

The Johnnie Walker skill dives deep into the world of whiskey in a fun and engaging way through recommendations of blends, practical whiskey tips and more – all just by using your voice. Now our customers can entertain at home in a unique way with the hands-free convenience of Alexa.

Rob Pulciani
Director, Amazon Alexa

Rob was quite elated by this as you can see from a statement he made, “We’re delighted to be collaborating with an iconic brand like Johnnie Walker”. Aside giving you general info about the different brands or labels , the app can offer bits of the content helping you select that which would satisfy your taste. It can also direct you to nearest location where you can pick up a bottle.

You see this could be fun right? Learning while you drink in the comfort of your home? And if you’re not a heavy drinker I’m sure mama once told you “ no knowledge is a waste”.

The Amazon skill is one part of the label’s digital mentorship program that encourages those who are unable to make it to one of the brand’s tasting rooms to learn more about the drink. The initiative also includes a Facebook Messenger bot that offers similar functionality.
