Previously, Apple had relied on remote data storage from Microsoft’s Azure and Amazon Web services, but now it seems the company is shifting from its former providers to Google.
Apple revealed in a file on its website that it now uses Google’s public cloud for iCloud data storage. This shows that Google’s cloud business is now at par with the likes of Microsoft’s and Amazon.
Back in 2016 it was reported that Google and Apple sealed up a deal regarding cloud storage but neither of the two companies provided any official confirmation about that. From the information published by Apple, it is seen that the updated version of its iOS Security Guide shows Google’s public cloud as what the company now use for iCloud storage. In March 2017 Apple updated this document, referencing remote data storage systems from Amazon and Microsoft but not Google.
The latest document shows only Google’s Cloud Platform as it new cloud storage provider.
So far the document doesn’t reveal if Apple relies on Google Cloud Platform for other services other than core storage of photos and videos, perhaps in the future the company will make this clear.
