Bethesda Game Studios has released an updated version of Fallout 4 new Far Harbor expansion on PlayStation 4 yesterday, this version addresses some performance issues found in the game.
Players on PS4 had recently been complaining about poor frame rates on Fallout 4 Far Harbor, to verify this, a performance analysis from Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry confirmed that the PS4 version of Far Harbor runs at a baseline of 20 frames per second in outdoor areas, obviously this happens due to the fog effects in the Far Harbor region, during these times, the game goes as low as 15 fps. According to Digital Foundry, the expansion runs at a more acceptable 20-30 fps on Xbox One.
To fix frame dips, Bethesda re-released Far Harbor on PS4, here are the steps from Bethesda to get the updated version of the expansion:
- Confirm Fallout 4 is not running. Highlight Fallout 4 in your PS4 dashboard, press Options, and select Close Application to ensure Fallout 4 is not running minimized.
- Select Related Items. You’ll find this under the Fallout 4 icon in the PS4 dashboard.
- Select My Add-Ons.
- Navigate to the download arrow next to Far Harbor and select it.
- You should see a notice that Far Harbor has been Added to Downloads.
- Wait for the downloadable content to finish downloading & installing before starting Fallout 4.
Bethesda adds: “If for any reason these steps do not work, you can delete Fallout 4 (and all add-on content) and simply reinstall the game (and add-ons from scratch).” Doing this won’t affect your save games. For now, the new version of the DLC is only available in North America, but Bethesda Twitter account said the EU update will follow in the “very near future”.
Bethesda re-released Far Harbor on PS4 instead of issuing a patch, this seems better because working on a patch might take longer, now if your Fallout 4 isn’t running as you expected, all you need do is re-download it…
Fallout is a series of post-apocalyptic role-playing video games. It was created by Interplay Entertainment. Although the series is set during the 22nd and 23rd centuries, its atompunk retrofuturistic setting and artwork are influenced by the post-war culture of 1950s America, and its combination of hope for the promises of technology, and lurking fear of nuclear annihilation. The latest of the series Fallout 4 is developed by Bethesda Game Studios. The game was released on November 10, 2015. The game takes place in Boston, Massachusetts, in the year 2287, ten years after the events of Fallout 3 and 210 years after the Sino-American war, which was fought over natural resources.
