Globacom Nigeria finally acquires 9mobile after approval from the Nigerian Communication Commission and official handover is set for January 16, 2018.
In the early days of July 2017, Etisalat Nigeria was taken over by creditors and re-branded as 9mobile after a $1.72 billion debt default and the exit of its parent UAE-based body. Since then speculations have continue to mount over who could acquire the telecom company.
The deal with Globacom will finally make the telecom giant the biggest telecommunication company in Nigeria, overtaking MTN and adding 9mobile’s 17 million subscribers to its network.
Nigerians also hope that this will make globacom network better and faster while keeping its data plan tariffs as cheap as possible.
