Google announced back in October last year that Podcasts were coming but they didn’t say when. After that they opened a site for Podcasters to add their podcasts into the Google play music, so as to have a huge number of podcasts available in their service by the time it is launched.
This Google play music launching could happen later this month according to Bill Simmons, the Sportscaster who revealed it on twitter. His tweet was deleted afterwards which made it obvious that he wasn’t supposed to say it was coming out this month. Google before now, had a podcast they canned, nevertheless, with Spotify adding podcasts as well as videos to their app, it is only logical that Google play would do same. This will make listening to podcast on Android easier, even on iOS and the Web too, since Google play music is available on the three platforms.
A unique and distinguishing feature that Google play music would have over all other podcast app is “discovery”, as it is going to be able to suggest new podcasts for users to listen to. Thanks to Google, tons of new users will be reached by podcasters via the Google play music app. It is totally free for podcasters and that is a good thing.
You see, almost everyone out there is doing a podcast now as it has become the new talk radio. With Google play, recording and sharing with people would be easy. It began as a tech niche but now, athletes, all manner of announcers and many others are doing their podcast everyday. Imagine how cool it is driving and being entertained by podcasts, it even uses less data than streaming music directly.
Although it hasn’t been officially announced when Google play music would be launching podcast, but it sure seems like soon, very soon.
