Nokia, through its parent company HMD Global returned to the smartphone market some weeks ago with a launch of the Nokia 6 smartphone, but thats not the news. The news is that our beloved, legendary mobile phone, the Nokia 3310 might just be reborn again. Yes you heard me right. Nokia 3310!
According to Ventura Beat, HMD Global is getting set to launch a set of four phones at the Mobile World Congress 2017 (MWC) this February. The remoured launch will include the Nokia 6, Nokia 5, Nokia 3 and the legendary Nokia 3310. Though HMD Global has not officially made a statement about these phones, the remour is already generating a lot of commentaries.
What can we say, we all loved the Nokia 3310, don’t we? a comeback wont be such a bad idea! As it stands, specifications of the proposed refreshed 3310 is still uncertain but, it is believed the phone might come with a price tag of just €59. That is very much lower than its original price of €129 as at year 2000.
Nokia 3310 was a GSM/TDMA mobile phone first launched on September 1, 2000 by Nokia. The phone sold extremely well, making it one of the most successful mobile phones, with 126 million units sold worldwide. The phone is still widely acclaimed today, and had gained a cult status due to its durability.
The Nokia 3310 was powered by a BMC-3 (NiMH) 900mAh and a BLC-2 (Li=ion) 1000mAh battery and was popular for SMS text messaging because it allowed long messages three times the size of a standard SMS text message, at 459 characters. It also featured threaded SMS writing, SMS chat. The phone also had voice dialing for the quick dialing of selected numbers.
