PlayStation 2 games will now be available to PlayStation 4.

Sony has confirmed that PlayStation 2 games will now be available to PlayStation 4 consoles. This was revealed to Wired recently by E-mail;

We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation. We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.

The PS2 games played on the PS4 would be rendered in higher resolution, run smoothly at a consistent 60 frames per second and include support for trophies.

Quiet a number of PS2 games were really loved by gamers, classic games like God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, Gran Turismo 3, Final Fantasy X….. made the PlayStation 2 one of Sony’s most popular consoles. Using emulators allows people with modern consoles to play games from obsolete systems or a different platform without having to buy the machine if Sony can get these games running on an emulator on PS4, older games would be revived.

For now, Sony hasn’t given detailed information concerning the emulation, we cant tell if one would actually insert a PS2 disc into the PS4 or if the games would have to be bought from the PlayStation digital store.
