During the Microsoft E3 media briefing, Xbox boss Phil Spencer announced an upcoming hardware refresh of Xbox One codenamed “Project Scorpio”, it’s the next games machine from Xbox and will be “the most powerful console ever”. Project Scorpio will be a high-end model with upgraded hardware; in addition to 6 teraflops of graphical performance, “Scorpio” will feature an eight-core CPU with 320 gigabits of memory bandwidth.
According to Xbox division head Phil Spencer Project Scorpio was designed as an answer to the massive growth of 4K gaming and VR in the high-end personal computer market, and that existing Xbox One games will experience performance improvements. He also stated in an example that Halo 5: Guardians (a first-person shooter video game published by Microsoft Studios for the Xbox One home video game console), which uses a scaling system that dynamically lowers the game’s resolution when needed to maintain a consistent frame rate, would be able to run at its native resolution with no scaling on “Scorpio”.
Microsoft hasn’t revealed any specific partnership or hardware support in regards to virtual reality but according to Spencer “you can imagine at the price point of Scorpio — which we haven’t actually said, but think about consoles and where they live in terms of price point — having something at six teraflops that will get millions of people buying it is very attractive to some of the VR companies that are out there already, and we’ve architected it such that something will be able to plug right in and work.”
All existing Xbox One games and accessories will be compatible with the “Scorpio” console. Pricing, hasn’t yet be revealed also, but we expect it to be higher than the Xbox One S which is starting at $299. Project Scorpio is scheduled to be released in late-2017.

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, commonly known as E3, is an annual trade fair for the video game industry presented by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). It is used by many video game publishers and accessory manufacturers to introduce and advertise upcoming games and game-related merchandise. Unlike Gamescom and other video-game trade fairs open to the public, E3 is an industry-only event; individuals who wish to attend are required by the ESA to verify a professional connection to the video-game industry. E3 is usually held in late May or early June at the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) in Los Angeles. Their recent event was held from June 16-18, 2015.
