This self-driving tractor could enhance and redefine farming forever


When one hears “self driving” what first comes to mind is cars, allow me to inform you that this is about to change. Although so far self-driving technology has been applied mainly to cars, the research is now being applied to other industries as well. This self-driving tractor, for example, will be of great use in the farming industry.

Earlier last week at the Farm Progress Show in Iowa, the concept autonomous tractor was unveiled by Autonomous Solutions Incorporated. The Case IH autonomous tractor features a maximum speed of 31 miles per hour with several cameras attached to it, radar and other sensors which allows the farmer to control the tractor remotely using a tablet.

The truck has huge rugged tires and a sleek design. It seems the truck wouldn’t require a driver because there’s no driver seat reserved for a driver, but since this is just a concept, it’s possible that could change. As seen in the video below, the truck looks like a cross between a race car and a traditional tractor with a red and black paint job.

The company behind the robotic tractor, haven’t revealed a price yet for the tractor since it is still in the works and may take years to launch. For now there are still questions asked about how the new autonomous tractor would function, how data collected would be managed and other potential issues which may arise.

Self driving trucks has a lot to offer, soon farmers will adopt to the new technology, but as said earlier one needs to ensure they are safe for use and ensure they are under constant supervision.

(also known by the acronym ASI) was founded in 2000 as a spinoff from Utah State University and is headquartered in Petersboro, Utah. Autonomous Solutions (or ASI) manufactures an OEM/vendor independent automation technology that retrofits to existing equipment. The system uses GPS, radio, and software technologies to create a fully autonomous vehicle. ASI has installations in the mining, farming, automotive, and military industries.
