In a recent discussion, Ready At Dawn spoke about the future of The Order: 1886, saying it hopes to be involved in creating more entries in the series.
In spite of the negative response from critics about the game, there could still be a sequel for the IP, according to Ru Weerasuriya, Ready at Dawn’s Creative director, when asked if the game had a possible sequel and a future he said; “The best way to answer that without giving anything… how can I say this… Is there a future? Yes,” Weerasuriya said. “That IP has a future. It’s definitely built in that IP. That future is already something that was built from the very get go, from the first day we started working on it. As you know, since you played the game and for the ones who played out there… there is a larger storyline. There is a macro story that keeps going, it’s an IP that is actually bigger than the storylines that we have created. So there are legs to this IP, definitely.”
Also, while speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Ready At Dawn chief executive Paul Sams and Ru Weerasuriya spoke on the game’s reception, and previous statements that The Order was conceived as a multi-part story;
“We feel that The Order showcased the fruits of our labor on technology. That was one of the biggest focuses for the team having come from PSP and jumping directly to PS4,” said Weerasuriya. “The first game was more than anything a launch platform to build upon.” He also went on further to say that “The Order was never written as a one-off story,” there is a lot more to tell as you can see from the way the game ends.”
A possible sequel also depends on Sony, this is because Sony’s ownership of the property means that it has final say on the matter. “It was absolutely the company’s desire to own it,” said Sams. “We love that game and we are proud of it. Unfortunately, we were at a point in the company’s evolution where owning that IP was not possible. We hope to not find ourselves in that position again.”
Well, i must say, although this game didn’t receive a lot of positive reviews, it was actually one of the best games i played even though i actually expected more chapters, I will appreciate a sequel because even the ending of the game demands that.
