Uber is starting up its own Artificial Intelligence Research Lab.

Is this surprising or what? Uber announced just earlier today, that it has bought New York-based AI start-up Geometric intelligence and that it will launch in no distant time its very own  AI research lab which would be named Uber AI Labs.

CEO Gary Marcus confirmed to The Wall Street Journal, that Geometrics Intelligence’s 15 specialists in machine learning will aid the propelling of Uber’s research on self-driving cars, hmmm are you thinking what i’m thinking? The company wants to dive into the cutting-edge technology just like BMW and probably Tesla, just saying. This is because of its need to do more than just pick up passengers in Pittsburgh and go on the occasional beer run.

According to Jeff Holden the chief product officer, Uber could use its AI to calculate the most efficient route, better match carpool riders and more accurately tell customer the exact time their car would arrive.

I am quite sure that you are aware that Uber isn’t the only company getting involved in AI, Toyota’s AI research has to do with a robot that reads emotions, Honda has its own AI research lab located in Tokyo. Manufacturers and service providers are trying to keep up as AI is being manifested in the auto section like never before.

Uber an American multinational online taxi dispatch company headquartered in San Francisco, California, was founded by Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp in 2009. Its Uber mobile app allows consumers with smartphones to submit a trip request which is then routed to Uber drivers who use their own cars. In 2014 Uber was ranked by Klout as the 48th-most powerful company in America. By late-2015, Uber was estimated to be worth $62.5 billion.
