AI Google Assistant finally comes to Android Tablets

If you didn’t know, in October 2016, Google Assistant got its debut with Pixel (first gen). It also got to Android phones running on Marshmallow some months after, then on smart watches, smart-home speaker, smart Android TVs and chrome based notebooks. But there was no news on its availability to tablets.

Few weeks ago, the new Google beta app v7.14 showed support for Google Assistance in Android tablets after it was released to testers. This means Android tablet owners will experience the feel of Google Assistance soon.

Now it is no speculation any longer but has been confirmed by the company, that Google Assistance will be rolling out to tablets next week. It’ll be available to users whose language is set to English in the U.S and later to other parts of the world.

Did someone just ask what Google Assistant is and why it’s such a big deal?
For starters, it lets users interact with their devices vocally and via texting. It is powered by an AI algorithm and it enables a one-on-one conversation which can last for as long as the users wants. All that a user needs to do is invoke the Google Assistant by just saying “Ok Google” and then goes ahead to ask for anything, like direction to a destination, search for nearby hotels and restaurants, set reminders/alarm, hail an uber etc by simply speaking to it.

Guess what! It also listens to every conversation you make on the phone, creepy yea?
Well it does that simply to help out, for instance, if you’re having dinner with a friend, it provides hotel options, it gives ticket-booking options and so on. To see these information, users just need to long press the home button.

This digital butler can also learn the behaviour of the device owner over time and improve its service.
Users can even send money via voice on Google Assistant.

The AI based voice Assistant will be released by Google to older Android phones running lollipop also, with language set to English in the U.S, UK, India, Canada, Australia and Singapore, as well as in Spanish in the U.S, Mexico and Spain. It’ll also be rolling out to users in Japan, Italy, Brazil, Germany and Korea.

Once you get the update and opt in, the app icon will appear in your “all app” list, you’d have to register your voice sample and start using it by simply saying “Ok Google”
