EKA Consult’s Blockchain Technology Summit in Lagos

We all know that Africa is not exactly at the forefront when it comes to Technology. Yes they have and use tech devices but how well can they develop theirs? The amount of programmers, developers and coders in Nigeria for example are few, even those that have some of these skills almost do not have a life as their services are always needed in various industries.

EKA Consult in a bid to help, have therefore taken it upon itself to fix this problem by enlightening the Nigerian youths on the bases and importance of “Blockchain Technology”. It held a summit yesterday the 25th of April, 2018 at the University of Lagos guest house, Lagos Nigeria. This summit gained the attendance of many undergraduate Nigerian youths from four different institutions.

Steph Mekwuye, CEO of EKA Consults practically broke down everything on Blockchain Technology. From its history, its composition and application in Cryptocurrencies, Banking and Finance, Automobile industries, Forecasting, Government and Voting. She mentioned that a block is made up of ; data and information, the hash of the block and the hash of the previous block. A hash is an identifier which identifies a block and all its content just like a fingerprint. She also stressed on the security of Blockchain.

A lot of people worry about the security of blockchain technology but within Blockchain Technology itself, is security. Tampering with a genesis block makes other subsequent blocks invalid as they no longer store a valid hash of the previous block.

The Idea of coming to Nigeria was simply born out of compassion for the country, this technology can be used to better the current state of the country said Steph, it will help in the area of Verification of certificates, creating job opportunities, human resources, generation of energy, insurance and very importantly record keeping in the medical sector.

The summit ended with a Q & A session, where first class programmers and AI experts which included Muneeb Shah, Dr YannisKalfoglou, Danny Holland and Luis Novella were available to answer various questions asked by the youths.
Youths interested in coding and programming were to meet with Steph to plan their future in that regard.

A blockchain, originally block chainis a continuously growing list of records, called blocks, which are linked and secured using cryptography. Each block typically contains a cryptographic hash of the previous block, a timestamp and transaction data. By design, a blockchain is inherently resistant to modification of the data. It is an open, distributed ledger that can record transactions between two parties efficiently and in a verifiable and permanent way.
