Samsung Galaxy S8 price, features and specs

The Samsung Galaxy S8 has finally been launched and it’s simply gorgeous, it looks better than the LG G6, and sleeker than the iPhone 7 Plus. For the first time, Samsung designed the S8’s 5.8-inch screen with no physical home button, and barely a bezel. In essence, the screen takes up roughly 90% of the phone’s face.

The Galaxy S8 features a massive 5.8-inch screen that wraps its way around most of the phone. It’s a QHD resolution, but longer @ 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The screen is also HDR-enabled, so expect superbly bright and colorful experience when watching Netflix.

Samsung also added another key to the S8 which takes the user to the Bixby assistant, a contextual assistant that can work out what you need through voice, touch or the camera. Although Bixby is good, but not as good as Google Assistant which is thankfully also on the phone.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 camera hasn’t really been given much of an upgrade compared to the Galaxy S7, however, the 12MP sensor on the back offers clear images and great performance in low light making it one of the best around. Samsung also added multi-frame image, which takes three snaps and finds the best quality for you. The front-facing camera has been boosted to 8MP, with lots of effects.

The S8 features a 3,000mAh non removeable battery and fast wireless charging support. Although not much has been done on the S8 battery, the new chipset inside has been improved to offer 10% more CPU power and 21% better management on the GPU, so as to improve efficiency so everything should fly along faster and with more efficiency. But then, the screen offers more pixels which the battery is expected to power, that’s something to think about.
Samsung claims that the S8 battery is about long-term performance rather than a short-term benchmarking burst. It’s expected to hold a longer charge after 6 months, a year and two years compared to the S7. According to Oh Boo-keun, vice president of Samsung’s mobile R&D team.

Where most batteries hold about 80 percent of their charge after two years, this battery should be capable of 95 percent of its original capacity.

Although the S8 is a great phone, some will be worried by the fact that the camera and battery haven’t been given an obvious boost, but then, Nexus 6P and PixelXL have the same camera hardware, but additional processing pushes the Pixel xl picture quality higher, this might be the same in the case of the S7 and s8. Let’s wait and see how Apple responds…
